The idea of a national conference for MTNA Collegiate Chapters was founded in the spirit of collaboration when a group of students from different universities came together at the 2011 MTNA National Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, (ironically MTNA's Year of Collaborative Music) to find ways to communicate and share activity. In January 2012, the University of Michigan hosted the inaugural MTNA Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium, which successfully provided students with a platform to share ideas, intensify creative activity, network, strengthen communication and gain the necessary experience in research and public presentation. Since then, it has traveled to a different university every year, giving different collegiate chapters the unique opportunity to organize a professional, national event.
