This year’s Pedagogy Saturday has something for everyone. Five tracks will offer an array of topics sure to be of interest to all teachers. Attendees are encouraged to mix and match the sessions to maximize their preconference experience.

Advanced Piano/Teaching Artistry

Advanced Pianism Is More Than Winning Competitions

This track will focus on a number of topics, including teaching the whole musician, how one’s sound expresses that and how the piano can become an orchestra. We will also examine the nature of music in higher education, how our awareness of things beyond music influences us and how the music we choose to play touches others. Learn More

Exploring How We Learn Music

Most of us have thought a great deal about how we teach music, but perhaps given less thought to how we learn music. This first-time track about music learning theory will draw on the latest research in neuroscience and cognitive psychology to explore how multiple generations—from infants to adults—learn music. Developing Self-Confident And Resilient Musicians: Teaching The Whole Person

Students, regardless of age, come to music lessons bringing life experiences with them. These experiences can positively or negatively impact potential.  Today’s sessions will explore the psychological issues music teachers handle every day.  Members of the American Psychoanalytic Association will partner with MTNA members to discuss ways to nurture emotionally healthy and resilient musicians.
