The CSO will offer a 50% discount on all tickets for the March 23, Sunday 3p concert featuring the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Conference attendees should use the code “MTNA50%” to order by phone (312) 294-3000 or (800) 223-7114, Box Office or at www.cso.org
Noted for their “electric, spontaneous rapport” (Chicago Tribune), the Australian Chamber Orchestra presents works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Britten, a fitting precursor to the CSO’s Truth to Power exploration. Shostakovich’s propulsive Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings bears his distinctive tongue-in-cheek humor, including gallops, can-cans and comedic quotations.
Paying affectionate tribute to his composition teacher, Frank Bridge, Britten’s variations each capture a different facet of their close relationship—vitality, humor, enthusiasm and warmth.
• Shostakovich Two Pieces for String Octet, Op. 11
• Prokofiev Suite from Visions fugitives
• Shostakovich Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings
• Prokofiev Five Melodies for Violin and Strings (arr. Swenson)
• Britten Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge
Richard Tognetti - artistic director
Olli Mustonen - piano
Christopher Martin – trumpet
